Effective 7/3/2006, all University and Research Foundation capital equipment purchases should be routed to Central Receiving for tagging and delivery.

RECEIVING, SHIPPING PARAMETERS

Receiving, Shipping Parameters
Listed below are physical limitations to what the Receiving Department can process. Please take into consideration when planning a purchase the physical limitations of the building the customer occupies.Examples include: Size of entrances, weight limitation of elevators, delivery vehicle accessibility and parking areas.
Physical limitations for Central Receiving:
1. Maximum Weight of asset
-4,000 lbs.
2. Height and width of Central Receiving dock doors – 8’ 11” wide x 8’ tall
3. Central Receiving elevator doors – 8’ x 11” wide x 12’ 11’ tall x 12’ long
4. Usable ceiling height in the Receiving dock area
(attention to the Co-Ray-Vac heating system a priority) – 9’
5. Height/width of blue doors leading to the storage area if the asset is to be stored before delivery – 9’ x 9’
6. Weight limitations of:
-forklift -3,000 lbs.
-dock plates -35,000 lbs.
-dock elevator lifts -5,000 lbs.
-pallet jack -4,000 lbs.
7. Mobility of asset. (Can Central Receiving material handling equipment be utilized?)
8. Is the item secured in such a manner that Central Receiving material handling equipment can be utilized for transportation without damaging the item?
9. Can the item can be moved safely with Central Receiving material handling equipment?
10. Integrated wheels (locking or not?)
Items Outside Shipping Deliver Scope:
The Receiving department will receive items outside the Shipping Department’s deliver scope.
(Please note),
Specialty movers (i.e.…Accelerated) will handle items delivered “outside” the
scope of the Shipping department with costs charged to the customer. Items
defined as “outside” are all items beyond the physical limitations for the
University Shipping department.
Dimensional limitations for Shipping:
Maximum Dimensions of delivery truck - 18’ x 7’ x 6’.
Height, width and depth of dock/building area delivery is to be

Weight limitations for Shipping:
Weight limitations of material handling equipment – 4,000 lbs.
Weight limitation of trucks (tailgate 3,300 lbs., non-tailgate 4,000 lbs.)

Mobility of item:
Standard pallet that can be moved safely with standard pallet forks and/or pallet jack
Integrated wheels (locking or not).
Benefits for using centralized delivery:
1.Customer staff hours are saved in receiving purchased items at 2650 Kenny
2.Customer relieved of the burden of processing incorrect/damaged items
3.Item does not leave the campus area if customer dock space is not available
4.Customer can arrange specific delivery time when needed
5.Opportunity for a reduction in delivery costs for customer
